[Hokkaido Heritage] Teshio River Canoe Touring Competition "Down the Teshio-Ope 2026" Participation Information Dear all, We hope this message finds you in good health. Down the Teshio, which started in 1992, has been suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year marks its 33rd competition. To date, the total number of participants has been approximately 6,000, and the number of staff has been 1,800. Starting this year, the plan is to divide the 151m from Nayoro City to the mouth of the Teshio River into three sections and paddle down to Teshio Town over three years.
This year's stage will start at Nayoro Ohashi Bridge in Nayoro City, pass through Bifuka Island (a boat camping site) in Bifuka Town, and finish at Nakanoshima River Station in Otoineppu Village (a paddling distance of 59km). This competition is positioned not only as a way to promote and develop outdoor sports, but also as an excellent opportunity to showcase the charm of the Teshio River, a Hokkaido heritage site, and the municipalities in its basin to a wide audience. We would like to invite as many people as possible to participate, and have posted the information pamphlet below. We look forward to your entries. Please note that participants will receive their bib number, venue map, and participation guide materials approximately one week before the competition. In addition, a discount system (2000 yen off per person) is available for registered members of the Japan Canoe Federation and the Hokkaido Canadian Canoe Club, so we look forward to many participants. Pre-competition information is being released (a pre-competition notice will also be available to participants one week before the competition)
